Originality of ideas x Unparalleled drawing ability

Akihiro NiSHi gives form to a wide range of values born from play.

Akihiro NiSHi originally created flyers for bands. His avant-garde worldview of combining realistic motifs and fantasies caught the attention of many people, and in response to strong requests from those around him, he decided to become a full-fledged artist. He says, “I am always thinking about design.” His main style of drawing is to use only brush and pen handwriting, and he also has a style that specializes in original graphic expression of designs, logos, and text. He can create original designs, client work, T-shirts, flyers, characters, and corporate/commercial logos with a wide range of expression and overwhelming quality, regardless of the field. Artist? Illustrator? Graphic designer? His talent defies categorization as any of those, and there is probably no other creator like Akihiro NiSHi in Japan, or perhaps the world.

His originality and his expression through his overwhelming drawing ability are most impressive. He is able to express the images in his mind as they are in his works. It is not an easy task to equalize image and output. The unique world he carefully depicts, in which he does not overlook the “play” that lurks in everyday life, is captivating to the viewer. His work has caught the eye of the rock band Maximum the Hormone in the past. He later created a tour T-shirt for the band.

Anyway, with the desire to “let more people know about my work,” he faces a piece of paper and a Mac screen and works with his hands today. By incorporating his designs into your daily life, a sense of “playfulness” will sprout inside you. That would be very fun. Isn’t it?

We hope you will experience the world of Akihiro NiSHi, which no one can predict.

P.S.

Please contact us for silk screen design of T-shirts and other clothing items.

He understands the principles of screen printing (single color combinations). He is able to suggest colors with the final ideal in mind because he is always thinking about the T-shirt design. No other creator has the skill and experience that he does.

The first time I felt art, or rather thought skulls were cool, was when I was a child. I saw “Hone Hone Rock” by Masato Shimon on TV. Hardcore punk, which is the root of my art, also has its origin there. I think most of the punks of my generation are like that.

I interpret the great Shigeru Mizuki’s manga as pop, dark and subtle. His works have also had a great influence on my drawings. The way he draws landscapes and the pop characters he creates are truly amazing. I think it was Mizuki that got me hooked on pointillism. And I love yokai and demons, of course!

Speaking of demons, the end credit and the song of the anime “Devilman” taught me my first feeling of “heart aches” as a kid. I think it is the devil inside of me that makes me love Devil, Baphomet!

Isn’t it the devil’s blood in me that makes children cry so hard when they see me?

Isn’t my shadow becoming the devil? No, there is no way I am becoming one. I am just the son of a liquor store owner.

“MECHANICAL VIOLATOR HAKAIDER” also had a great influence on me. The NiSSiN ARTWoRKs (Akihiro NiSHi’s CREW) logo with the thundering “N” is also completely in that style! Villains are really punk and devastating.

I was in a hardcore punk band when I was 20 and took it seriously. I guess I was in it for about 10 years…

The band was a funny name:  MILK COFFEE. At first, we did not decide on a band name. But when my band was featured in a town magazine or something, I was asked to name the band. I was drinking “Gabumi-nomi Milk Coffee” at that time. If I had been drinking Hiyashi Ame, I probably would have been  Hiyashi Ame. Would the band members have been upset with me? Or Coke? Not bad, but too American. Well, I thought that kind of thing was punk, but it’s not true at all. lol

I digress. As for drawing, I mainly drew our own CD jackets and flyers for our live shows when we were a band. The reason I was in charge of those was simply because I was the best painter among the band members. Well, then the guys around the band started asking me to do it too.

I like to draw and I wanted to exceed their expectations. Although I suffered, it was also around that time that I began to enjoy drawing.

When I was young, I attended night classes at Osaka Designer’s College. I think I was 19 years old. When I was 18, I was thrown into a temple for about six months. An old woman whom my mother worshipped like a fortune teller (she also named me) told me that if I went to school during the day, I would play and that those who went to school at night were more serious. Well, I did have fun at night. The school was in Umeda, and I went to Namba to see live shows, record stores, and bookstores. Looking back, I learned a lot from those days and from the friends I met then. I liked drawing class and never missed it. I went out on the streets and drew people there. It was interesting that I had to capture them in a short time because they were moving.

The speed is hardcore punk.

I like handwriting, but I first used a Mac in a class at school and became to like graphics too. I studied graphics there until I was convinced, and it’s helping me with my current printing.

Graphics lead me to further action in hand-drawing.

I can’t help but wonder why I was the only one who repeated a year. We were all spending time together though. The lady at the office told me that I was the first person in the night class to repeat a year and continue to attend. Thanks to that, I made a lot of friends. Nothing is wasted.

During my obsession with punk music, I came across and got into psychedelic music. I performed at live show and then went out to club. Many people in that world also came from a punk background, which was the next step in music for me and influenced my drawing.  It was natural to want to incorporate an optical illusion element. Like a moving picture. Now I’m getting more and more requests from psychedelic people.

Music leads to painting, and images come from playing.

I would like to continue to challenge myself in many different ways!
